  RUSH’s 1974 album 2112 was where the 'Starman' logo first appeared. It was supposed to be an allegory on ‘freewill’ against totalitarianism, but directed more at Stalinism rather than fascism as the illustration was of the naked man fearing or opposing the ominous Red Star.
  
  Zsa Zsa Sapien of SCUD FM has always had a penchant for Rush, but sometimes felt unease at songwriter Neil Peart’s Randian lyrics. So a pastiche of the ‘Starman' was produced, modified for a metaphor of the free spirit against capitalism/imperialism, represented by the American star logo rendered on the side of their warplanes.
